Phil Panelas: Chairman of TMHF Foundation

Phil Panelas

The TMH Foundation is very fortunate to be a member of a very generous community. This virtue has enabled our Foundation to provide financial support to QH- Trenton Memorial since its establishment in 1983. In fact, between 2000 and 2006 alone, our Foundation community has invested more than $12,830,922  in local healthcare.

The objectives of the TMH Foundation is to:

  1. Actively work with individuals, organizations and the community to generate awareness of the needs of our Hospital
  2. Raise money.
  3. Foster recognition in support of all donors, past and present.
  4. Demonstrate stewardship and integrity.
  5. Inspire confidence through leadership.

The Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation generates revenue in support of the Hospital
through a variety of methods, including: personal and direct mail appeals, special events,  estate gifts, gifts of stock, through corporate payroll deduction programs, earnings on investments and many other charitable giving vehicles.

The future of our community’s health care depends on all of us who live, work and play in Quinte West and surrounding area. Commitment, excellence, dedication and vision are what we need to ensure that the delivery of health care in our community is maintained now and in the future.

While the Ontario government pays almost 80% of the Hospital’s operating budget, this funding allows for basic improvements only. The governments continue to reduce funding for Hospitals and they are required to do more with much less. Therefore, there is an increasing demand on the community to fund equipment, programs and services not funded by the government. Quinte Healthcare recognizes the need to run a cost-efficient operation and invest in new technologies while not compromising the health care of our patients. Direct community support is required for the necessary purchase of advanced technology and the revitalization of our facilities.

Quinte Health Care spends above average on equipment versus other community hospitals in the province, recognizing that up-to-date and fully-functioning medical equipment is essential in the provision of high quality care to patients, and the recruitment of physicians and staff. The QHC Board of Directors recently approved a multi-year operating and capital strategy to address its capital needs for the next three years. The funding will come from a number of sources, but they will also continue to rely on the generosity of its communities, and donors of which regularly contribute funds for equipment. These funds flow through the Foundations.
